Bus
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has its own bus system. Similar to the Metro system, you can use "SmarTrip cards" to pay your bus fare. However, you may also use cash. For regular routes, the fare is $2, and for express routes, it is $4.25. Bus routes permeate the entirety of D.C, this is a fairly reliable mode of transportation. Fee information can be found here in WMATA's website. For researching bus routes, you may use WMATA's service for bus maps here.
